Biography

Marco Zàppia

Born in Patti in 1996, he achieved with a score of 110, honors and mention the master degree in piano under the guidance of maestro Gaetano Indaco at the “A.Corelli” conservatory in Messina and the bachelor degree in Composition with the maestro Giovanni D'Aquila at the “A.Scarlatti” conservatory in Palermo. For the 2017/18 academic year he won the scholarship in the 1st Edition of "Albero della musica" for the best performance among recent graduates with top marks. As part of the Erasmus project, he attended the “Institut Supérieur de Musique et Pédagogie” (IMEP) in Namur, Belgium, with M° Roberto Giordano.

He has participated in various national and international piano and chamber music competitions, winning first prize several times. Among the most recent: the national competition “P. Mandanici” of Barcellona PG, the international competition “LS D'Agata” of Acireale, the international competition “Amigdala” of Aci Bonaccorsi and the national competition “B.Albanese” of Caccamo. He won the regional audition to be part of the Sicilian Youth Orchestra for the two-year period 2018-20.

He has played as a soloist and in ensembles for various prestigious musical associations, festivals and public bodies including the Accademia Filarmonica, the Vincenzo Bellini of Messina, Amici della musica “G.Mulè” of Termini Imerese, Piano City Palermo.

He perfected himself in various masterclasses, held by internationally renowned masters, such as Gilda Buttà, Gerard Marie Fallour, Pierluigi Camicia, Leslie Howard, Roberto Cappello, Michele Campanella, Benedetto Lupo.

He attended several masterclasses held by important composers such as Orazio Sciortino, Oscar Strasnoy, Salvatore Sciarrino, Francesco Filidei, Franco Piersanti, Paolo Buonvino, Marco Betta.

He also attended an annual orchestral conducting masterclass with maestro Bruno Cinquegrani in the 2017/18 academic year.

He took part in various national and international composition competitions, winning first prize several times. Some of his compositions have been published by publishers such as Studiomusicalicata – musical editions and U07 records. On the occasion of the music festival on 21 June 2022, his cadenza from the second movement of Mozart's concert for flute, harp and orchestra k299 was performed by the soloists of the Youth Orchestra at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. His piece for solo flute Zéphyros, awarded with mention in 2022 by the composition competition organized by the Flute New Music Consortium, has been performed several times in America.

In July 2023 his critical-musical essay "The Miroirs and the dualistic poetics of reflection" was published by the Kimerik publishing house.
